The Violin Maker

A photo I shot a while back for work. It's of Bruce Brown, an Ironton, Ohio, man who had heart surgery, but is doing great and is back in his wood shop making violins. Pretty simple lighting setup, two Alien Bees units, one camera left through a large softbox moved in close to the subject and a second camera right pointed at the violins in the background with a 10-degree honeycomb grid.

Open Water Swim

Kenzie took part in her first open water swim Saturday morning at Cave Run Lake. She swam the 1 mile option, which involved two laps of swimming around a buoy that was a quarter mile from the shore. The buoy is the two round red things floating way off in the distance in the second photo.

Kenzie started at a new school this morning, which I think made her mother more nervous than it did her.

We went kayaking with Kenzie's swim coach at Grayson Lake on Saturday. Love the bright colors of the kayaks against the darker water.

Kmart is not very Green

Some companies like Starbucks are trying to reduce waste by asking if you want a paper receipt, but Kmart seems to be going the opposite direction. I went in today and bought four items, when the checkout girl hands me this huge wad of paper that is my receipt...turns out, it's actually five sheets of paper, that includes four coupons with some huge paragraph explaining each, and my actual receipt for my four items is about 18 inches long. Sheesh.

Friday was my 38th birthday, and my wife surprised me at work with this super cool iPhone cake that she made. I love how much work she put into the icons.

I've been playing with the upgraded camera on my new iPhone, and have found it a neat gadget to have handy. I also got an app that applies some preset camera effects that are pretty neat, and there's a flickr group that's dedicated solely to photos taken with an iPhone.
