Scenes from the Ice Storm

The big snowstorm we had here (well, big for here anyhow) turned into an ice storm that left a layer of ice all over trees, branches and pretty much everything else. We were some of the lucky people at our house that didn't lose power. One report said that 65% of the people in our county were without power after the storm. Here are a few detail shots of the ice.

Icy Window

The window of our van with a thin layer of ice over it. I messed with the white balance a little in Lightroom to give it the blue-green tint.

Snow Day

We had a pretty substantial snow last night and this morning, which has since simply turned to freezing rain. However, we all took the day off and let the kids out to play for a while. Kenzie liked rolling around and throwing the snow, while Reece, on the other hand, just ate a little of it, then wanted to go in because it was cold.

Ivy's Portrait

Hard to believe that this is that tiny kitten we found just five months ago in an ivy patch outside our house.

Kenzie in Red

Lately, I've been leaving one of my flashes and a GI remote on a light stand and just tucking it away in the corner. That way, if sometime pops up, I drag out the stand, throw on an umbrella and have a quick good light source. That came in handy this morning, as my daughter got dressed up in her red hat and scarf just before going to church, so I quickly grabbed the camera, moved the umbrella in close and snapped this portrait with very little setup. The desaturation effects were done in Lightroom.

Mmmmm, Dessert

Lisa made this really good cream cheese filled dessert for dinner last night.

My Daughter, the Animal Lover

We have yet another kitten that showed up at our back door the other day, and of course our daughter can't resist helping it (after all, it is really cold outside right now). I told her this one wasn't going to stay in the house, but she did talk me in to letting her live in the garage until it warms up out. Guess I'm just a pushover.

Reece the Gamer

Reece's preschool had an accident where the water sprinklers went off on Friday, so he had to come to work to hang out with me for a while. With his DS to play, I hardly knew he was there.
