What a Rip Off

Remember when air was free? Not so long ago, air was just one of those services a "service" station provided. Then, it started at a quarter, then 50 cents, and this morning I stop to get some air at a local gas station with my two quarters in hand only to get out and find that it's up to 75 cents ... nearly a buck to add a few measly PSI to my tires.

So, what's next? Coin operated funnel dispensers for adding oil? A dollar bill feeder system for the windshield washing fluid? If you notice, no one calls them "service stations" anymore. They're gas stations now. The service apparently died a long time ago when companies figured out we needed their product and had no other options.

Swim

Some more of my Photoshop-created artwork of my daughter. I think it's pretty obvious that the water isn't real, but it's still kinda neat looking. It's a plug-in called Flood by Flaming Pear, and it does a great job at getting the reflection and the ripples right, but the perfectly straight horizontal water line usually gives it away.

Old Cemetery

This is a small roadside cemetery (not a graveyard, as it is not part of a church property) that is on the farm we visited over the weekend. Many of the graves dated back to the early to mid-1800s, and some looked to be older (as they were at the back of the land) but had no markings.

Move Over Phelps

What do my daughter and Michael Phelps have in common (besides both being great swimmers)? They shared front page space in our local newspaper last week. Here's a shot of the page (click on the image for a much bigger view).

Birthday Party Boy

His birthday isn't officially until Monday, but today was Reece's 4th Birthday Party. Here he is in his race helmet, as he had a Speed Racer themed party. Lisa did another awesome cake. You can see it over on her cake blog.

Kitten Update

The kitty is still doing well. We took him (it is a he, after all) to the vet to be checked out, and everything looked fine. He's still eating from a bottle (see the second photo) and is starting to get more playful, so it looks like everything is going to work out.

Kitten Rescue

We found this little guy (or girl, I'm not sure) under a thick patch of ivy next to our house after hearing him meowing. It's a tiny kitten, way too little to be away from it's mother, so we're trying to feed him from a medicine dropper and hope he pulls through okay. After a day, he seems to be doing better than when we found him.

Two From Today

One of Kenzie and one of Reece. I had to do some Photoshop work on Kenzie to remove the chocolate cake from around her mouth. Reece is sporting his new haircut he got on Friday.
